When a third party commits a crime, you may be considered partially liable even though you yourself bear some of the blame. This is known as vicarious responsibility.  When one party is in charge of (and in control of) a third party and is negligent in discharging those duties and exercising that control, vicarious liability may result. Based on their relationship, a supervisory party would be held accountable for the deeds of a subordinate or associate.
