GIS: 

A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system for capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying data related to positions on Earth's surface. GIS can show many different kinds of data on one map, such as streets, buildings, and vegetation. 

It is made up of five key components:


Hardware: The computer hardware that runs the GIS software.

Software: The software that allows users to interact with the GIS data.

Data: The geographic data that is stored in the GIS.

People: The people who use the GIS to create, manage, and analyze the data.

Methods: The techniques that are used to analyze the data and solve problems.
