Female crime, by definition, refers to the crimes committed by women. It corresponds with the male crime, and is a crime classification which is made from a gender perspective. The main purpose of this classification is to explore the causes of female crime and make positive prevention. Now a days, every 12 women in 1,00, 000 are engaged in female criminality in Bangladesh which is comparatively low in the context of developed countries [USA (1154), Germany (516), Thailand (316)] but comparatively high as to our neighboring country, India (8)
Rita J. Simon (1975) in the book “Women and Crime” showed that there is no difference between male and female in terms of morality, the biological characteristics not being relevant for committing crime. She argued that historically, males are more active in crime because of their greater social opportunities, competences, and networking than females. In the broader social context, if female opportunity, efficiency and social communication are increased, then the rate of female criminality increases accordingly.
