The Hindu period, in terms of the dominance of Hindu culture and influence in the Indian subcontinent, can be traced back to ancient times, possibly as far back as the Indus Valley Civilization (around 3300–1300 BCE). However, the Vedic period, which began around 1500 BCE with the arrival of the Indo-Aryans and the composition of the Vedas, marks an important early phase of Hindu civilization. From then on, Hinduism evolved and flourished alongside various dynasties, empires, and cultural movements, shaping the history of the region.
