The Hindu period in the legal history of the region now known as Bangladesh began around 1500 BCE, coinciding with the Vedic Age when the earliest Hindu scriptures, the Vedas, were composed. This era continued through various dynasties, including the Maurya (circa 322-185 BCE) and Gupta (circa 320-550 CE) empires, up until the early medieval period when Islamic rule started to take hold around the 13th century.
