During the Muslim period, particularly under the Mughal Empire, the highest judicial authority was often referred to as the "Diwan-i-Khas" or the "Diwan-i-Aam." The Diwan-i-Khas, or Court of Capital, was the private court of the ruler, where important matters of state, including legal and judicial affairs, were deliberated. The Diwan-i-Aam, or Court of Public, was where public audiences were held and where matters concerning the general populace were addressed. These courts played crucial roles in the administration of justice and governance during the Muslim period in India.
