The legal and construction history of Bangladesh is extensive and shaped by various factors, including colonial rule, post-independence development, and modernization efforts. Bangladesh inherited much of its legal system from British colonial rule, which lasted until 1947. After gaining independence from Pakistan in 1971, Bangladesh developed its own legal framework, influenced by both British common law and Islamic law.

In terms of construction history, Bangladesh has experienced significant growth and development in its infrastructure sector since independence. However, challenges such as land scarcity, environmental concerns, and building safety have been persistent issues. The construction industry has seen both government-led initiatives and private sector investments aimed at improving infrastructure, housing, and urban development. Additionally, Bangladesh has faced natural disasters like floods and cyclones, which have often necessitated reconstruction efforts and the implementation of resilient building practices.
